A Study on the Subjective Symptoms of Fatigue of the Nurses in the General Hospitals


Abstract
In order to get a basic material for evaluation of nursing practice by knowing degree of fatigue of nurses, a study was carried out on 236 who were on duty at the general hospitals in Kwang Ju area during October, 1977, by using questionnaires as measuration of subjective symptoms of fatigue.
The results obtained were as follows;
1) The percentage of total fatigue complaints was 30.9% and the general type was I dominant type by the order of each complaints group. The ratio of II group to total fatigue complaints was more than 0. 7 in any groups.
2) The percentage of weekly fatigue complaints was the highest on Friday in all of three complaints groups and the next on Monday in two complaints gro-ups, comprising two peaks in a week.
3) The highest percentage of fatigue complaints was observed on the item of "feel tired of eye" in physical complaints(I group) as 47.2%, "become annoying the speaking" in mental complaints(II group) as-46.3% and "have a headache" in sensory-neurotic complaints(III group) as 48. 9%.
4) By the age group, the highest fatigue complaints group was 40 years old and over group as 46.5%. By the order of complaints group, I dominant type was showed in 3 younger groups before 35 years of age, while II dominant type in 2 older groups.
5) By the years of service, the highest complaints group was under 6 months group as 36.100. The order of complaints group was I dominant type in 3 groups less than 3 years and II dominant type in 2 other groups.
6) By the working place, the highest complaints group was OR ICU Anesthesi-ology as 35.7%. OPD and other groups were II dominant type and the remainder
groups were I dominant type.
7) by the hours of duty, the highest complaints grow was night group as 39.3%. All group showed I dominant type. In II and III complaints groups, the percentage of fatigue complaints was significantly higher in night group than day group (p<0.05).
8) The percentage of fatigue-complaints was significantly higher in the mar-ried group than the unmarried.(p<0.05) - The order of complaints group was I dominant type in the latter and II dominant type in the former.
